Soups are very versatile and can be made using many
different ingredients. One of the great things about soup is that you can
put a selection of fresh, raw and sometimes cooked ingredients into a pan
with some well-flavored stock, let the mixture bubble away for a short

few key ingredients with added flavorings, such as herbs or spices,
whereas other soups - perhaps those ideal for a special occasion or a more
substantial meal - may require a little more preparation. Some soups make
ideal starters to a meal, and they are always a popular choice, while
others are substantial enough to be meals in themselves, served with
plenty of fresh crusty bread as an accompaniment. There are light and
refreshing soups that are chilled, ideal for summer dining al fresco, and
rich and creamy soups, perfect for meals shared with family and friends.
