Molasses Cookies Recipe

Molassses Cookies Recipe - 8 dozen cookies


2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger

1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon

2/3 cup safflower oil

1/4 cup molasses

1 egg

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar


Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cloves, ginger and cinnamon. Set aside. Using lowest speed of an electric mixer, blend oil, molasses, and egg, add brown sugar. Blend. Gradually add flour mixture, mix well. Chill dough for 2 hours. Form into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar. Place on nonstick baking sheets. Sprinkle each cookie with 2 to 3 drops of water. Bake at 375oF for 8 to 10 minutes, or until set and tops are crackled. Cool cookies on a wire rack.
